Most of us have toiled at rather unpleasant jobs at one time or another in our lives. However, I have a hunch there are very few folks around who can share what it was like to  work in a textile mill (aka "sweatshop") in the 1920's and 1930's. The archives of the Southern Oral History Project (housed at the University of North Carolina) are the source of an audio  interview with Greef Smith (born 1908) and his wife Mattie Smith (born 1912). During the course of the interview conducted in 1981, these former textile workers give us a glimpse into a world far removed from what most of us are familiar with. Hey, do you slow down or speed up when you encounter a yellow light? Neil Augenstein, a reporter for WTOP radio in Washington D.C. uncovers the ins and outs of this colorful yet, often ignored light in a November 20, 2023 article entitled "100 Years Ago, Anxiety Prompted Inventioon of Yellow Light". Do you ever run red lights? Hmm..in a December 23rd, 2022 article conveniently entitled "How Often Do Drivers Run Red Lights", we'll delve into this activity. Then - we'll head back in time to October 23rd, 1945 and listen to an extremely popular old time radio program - Inner Sanctum". The episode in question is entitled "The Corrider of Doom".
