The Front Porch Blues Show

JD Esquire

Rich Blackmarr will host another Rockin' In Rhythm Archives edition of the Front Porch Blues Show tonight.  Today is the 87th birthday of the brilliant elder statesman of Chicago blues guitar, Buddy Guy (born 7/30/1936).  We will begin the program with a short tribute to Buddy Guy.  The rest of the Show will feature blues and R&B recordings from the mid-1940s to the mid-1950s, mostly from lesser known artists often recording for independent labels.  Mel London, a Mississippi-born songwriter and record producer, began his career making R&B records for the London label, the American affiliate of the UK's Decca Records.  London went on to found his own blues/R&B record companies Chief and Profile.  Early recordings that Mel produced have been reissued on Sneakin' Around: The London Records R&B Story 1949-1951 and will be featured in tonight's edition of the FPBS along with others from this period.
