The Front Porch Blues Show
JD Esquire
Rich Blackmarr will host another Rockin' In Rhythm Archives edition of the Front Porch Blues Show tonight. Much of the program's first hour will be devoted to zydeco music to celebrate last Thursday's concert by CJ. Chenier, son of Clifton Chenier, as well as the Louisiana Zydeco / Soul Dance Party in Sacramento next Sunday. We will open though with a tribute to Dr. Mike Henderson, UC Davis Art professor emeritus and great blues guitarist, whose art (social protest, painting & film making) were exhibited last January at Manetti Shrem. Then we'll feature some blues recordings made in 1968-69 by favorite artists including Koko Taylor, Freddie King, and Magic Sam. The program will close with a set of blues and jazz recordings from 1938 ranging from Peetie Wheatstraw to Ella Fitzgerald.
