This, That And the Other
Sagebrush
This show will be focused on "field recordings" largely recorded in the southeastern United States between 1934 and 1941. Two of the recordings were made by musicians in the Mississippi State Penitentiary - often referred to as the "Parchman Farm. Another recording was made at the Arkansas State Penitentiary. Instead of the musicians attempting to obtain recording contracts with various recording companies, field recordings involved a recording company heading out into "the field" to seek obscure musicians who would record for their record company. This is part of what makes these songs so unique. Indeed, they come from a different time and a different place!
