The Front Porch Blues Show
JD Esquire
Rich Blackmarr will bring you another Rockin' In Rhythm Archives edition of the Front Porch Blues Show this evening. This in-depth look at the Chicago blues scene in 1965-1966 will build upon the groundbreaking series of three albums on the Vanguard label produced by blues authority Sam Charters in December 1965 called Chicago / The Blues / Today! These recordings drew from lesser and better known practitioners of the blues who were based in Chicago's Southside and Westside blues nightclubs. In addition to sampling the 42 tracks compiled on Volumes 1, 2, and 3 of this series, tonight's show will also include contemporary Chicago blues recordings from Pete Welding's Testament label, and from Chicago's Chess, VeeJay, C.J., and USA labels. Featured artists include Junior Wells, Buddy Guy, James Cotton, Homesick James, Johnny Shines, Koko Taylor, Otis Rush, Sam Lay, Mighty Joe Young, Etta James, and many more.
