The Front Porch Blues Show
JD Esquire
Rich Blackmarr will host the Front Porch Blues Show tonight. The Koko Mojo record label has only been around for about four years and it reissues mostly obscure blues and bluesy/rockin' R&B records originally released by small record labels from the mid-1940s through the 1960s. It is run by a record producer with long involvement with the Bear Family Records label from Germany, which issues high quality box sets and individual CDs in various genres of vintage recordings. The focus of tonight's show will be over 20 selections from the Koko Mojo albums I've collected, specifically singles originally released in the years 1960 through 1963. The blues/R&B artists included in this broadcast encompass many previously unknown to me including Bonnie Lee, Baby Joy Hamilton, Cal Green, Ronnie Love, Eloise Carter, Betty O'Brien, Sherri Taylor, Buddy Skipper, and Louise Brown plus many more heard infrequently. The Front Porch Blues Show tonight concludes with a tribute to (Louis Charles) L.C. 'Good Rockin' Robinson (1914-1976), a bluesman active in the S.F. Bay Area who played steel guitar, guitar, and fiddle and was a performer in the 1973 and 1974 San Francisco Blues Festivals.
