En sus propias palabras: Nací en España, en la ciudad de Almería, a orillas del mar Mediterráneo. Allí crecí y fui a la escuela hasta que con 18 años me mudé a Granada para comenzar mis estudios de biología. Después de mi graduación y tras estudiar un máster en enseñanza, comencé mi PhD en agricultura, en el departamento de fisiología vegetal de la Universidad de Granada, enfocándome en nutrición vegetal y uso eficiente de nutrientes en plantas. Me uní al departamento de Plant Sciences en UC Davis como estudiante postdoctoral en el 2013, en laboratorio de Eduardo Blumwald, donde he centrado mi investigación en el efecto de estreses abióticos como sequía, salinidad o temperaturas extremas, en la producción de los cultivos. Actualmente, coordino un proyecto financiado por el Departamento de Energía, cuyo objetivo consiste en incrementar la producción de biomasa en cultivos destinados a la fabricación de biocombustibles. Me apasiona viajar y la naturaleza y creo firmemente en la equidad, la justicia social y la ecología.

In her own words: I was born in Almeria, Spain and lived by the shores of the Mediterranean Sea until I was 18. I then moved to Granada, Spain to begin my biology degree. After graduating, I pursued a master’s in teaching while beginning a PhD in agricultural studies at the department of Plant Physiology of the University of Granada. My research focused on plant nutrition and nutrient use efficiency in plants. In 2013, after my doctorate, I joined the Plant Science department at the University of California, Davis, under the tutelage of Eduardo Blumwald, as a postdoctoral student. My postdoctoral research focused on the effect of abiotic stresses, like drought, salinity or extreme temperatures in the productivity of crops. Most recently, I have coordinated a project funded by the Department of Energy, where the main goal is to increase the production of biomass in crops intended for the development of biofuel. I am passionate about traveling and nature, and I firmly believe in equity, social justice, and ecology.
