The Front Porch Blues Show
JD Esquire
Rich Blackmarr will host the Front Porch Blues Show tonight. The opening set will be a tribute to Mac Rebennack (aka Dr. John) featuring some early collaborations with Jerry Byrne, Frankie Ford, and Roland Stone (1959-1962). After the May 19th show provided an in-depth look at Chicago blues recordings from 1947, the rest of tonight's program will focus more on progressive jazz and jazzy blues recordings from 1947. Artists will range from the orchestras of Duke Ellington, Lionel Hampton, and Gerald Wilson to the small group bebop of Bud Powell, Thelonious Monk, Charlie Parker, and Lucky Thompson. Singers will include Mabel Smith, Al Hibbler, Sarah Vaughan, Dinah Washington, and Ella Fitzgerald among others.
