Local Dirt

Local Dirt!

Today on Local Dirt, we talk about water, agriculture and environmental justice from 3 different perspectives. First, we talk with Jonathan Nelson of the Community Water Center about access (or lack thereof) to safe drinking water for Californians, and possible solutions for the 2 million Californians who are currently unable to drink the water coming out of their taps. Then, we hear from Dave Runsten of the Community Alliance with Family Farmers about the California Agricultural Water Stewardship Initiative, a program that helps CA farmers manage their water sustainably. Last, we talk with Brenna Norton of Food and Water Watch about the proposed Delta Tunnels and the water affordability crisis in LA county.

Also: if you've been following the show, you've heard alot of coverage about the insecticde Chlorpyrifos. The CA Department of Pesticide Regulation has recently opened a public comment period on a possible statewide ban on the chemical. To find out more, visit the United Farmworker Action Center here.
