Upper Realm Shrieks: Music and Words
David D. Young
I picked a recent CD by Laurie Lewis & the Right Hands entitled The Hazel & Alice Sessions. Hazel Dickens & Alice Gerrard recorded music in 1965 which are the basis for this Laurie Lewis recording done recently. I decided to include a song from the 1965 recording, Dickens Jones & Hawker released in 1998 & a recording by Alice Gerrard released in 2013 which was produced by Laurie Lewis. I saw Hazel Dickens at 1 of the earlier Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festivals in SF's Golden Gate Park. She goes straight to the heart. Thus this show is quite full of love songs. Other kinds of Music are included too including a dynamite piece by the Paul Rutherford Trio recorded live in 1983. The theme today is Love on a Labor Day Weekend in a world which I see to be Overmechanized in which the People are too machinelike because of their dependance on Electronica for Every Single Move They Make.
