The Front Porch Blues Show
JD Esquire
Rich Blackmarr will be your host on the Front Porch Blues Show this evening. The subject of the program will be a survey of the blues recordings released in the summer of 1953 from July through September of that year. Blues and bluesy R&B figured prominently in the music enjoyed by the African American community in 1953. Among the artists to feature in this evening's show will be Little Walter, Amos Milburn, Little Esther, Junior Wells, Smiley Lewis, Big Mama Thornton, B.B. King, Ray Charles, Memphis Slim, Junior Parker, Jimmy Rogers, Mercy Dee Walton, Champion Jack Dupree, Muddy Waters, Floyd Dixon, T-Bone Walker, LaVern Baker (her debut recording on Atlantic), and Jimmy Reed (his debut on Vee-Jay). I will slip in vocal group recordings by the Dominoes, the Five Royales, and Clovers, as well as a gospel group, the Four Interns.
