Happenings

Mary Younakof received her BA in Journalism from California State University and a MFA from Otis College of Art and Design. Mary currently has an exhibit at the Verge Center for the Arts in Sacramento, California.

Mary’s exhibit, 343 Dresses: A Creative Convergence Project, documents the artist’s exploration of color and its value in our daily lives and surroundings. The concept for the work arose from her desire to explore the color spectrum while creating an art project that she could merge with her daily life.

She began the project by making 343 dresses that span the range of the color spectrum. In addition to wearing the dresses every day, Mary created performances and photographs in front of colorful buildings throughout Los Angeles.  By wearing colors and using props that matched the buildings, she effectively CONVERGED with the cityscape. The results are simultaneously comical, joyous, and engaging.
