Prof.(William Julius)Wilson, If unmarried motherhood is an indication of a "culture of poverty,"
why isn't
the term applied to Hispanics whose rate of unmarried motherhood is higher per
thousand
than blacks(CDC)? Whites whose unmarried mother hood rates are increasing?
Moreover, Charles Blow in his "Smoke and Horrors," Times(10,23,2010)
demonstrates what we in Oakland know that blacks are the subject of search and
destroy missions by the police which leads to their incarceration
disproportionate to their drug use in California. This comes on the heels of an
expose in The Village Voice of the deliberate singling out of blacks by a
Brooklyn precinct, the result of tape recordings done in secret by a policeman
who, for his efforts, was committed to an asylum by the police who wanted this
policy to remain hidden.
NYPD Tapes 4: The WhistleBlower, Adrian Schoolcraft - He wanted his bosses to
know about NYPD misconduct. So they put him in a mental ward Since most blacks
have been incarcerated for drug crime does this mean that they wouldn't
be there were they white, and how much does police conduct have  to do with the
break up
of black families? ( For a glimpse of what happens to black men and women when
they
land behind bars see investigative report from The Sacramento Bee; California
prison
hospitals are so bad that they were seized by a federal judge; black prisoners
dwell
in gitmos all across the country). In order to satisfy their Angry White Male
consumers,
the Times also  quoted Charles Murray's book in a front page article  in
the Times, once again used to distract from the corporate crimes  hidden away on
the
business pages. Finally, did you know that feeble mindedness has been applied to
Murray's
Scotch Irish group? That's what Veep Cheney meant when he said he had Cheneys on

both sides of the family even though he wasn't from West Virginia. Also, do you
think
that you might have better handle on  inner city life were you to actually live
among
the underclass instead of relying on David Simon's "The Wire." Check out my
piece
"Professor Joe, Oakland's Next Mayor" at counterpunch.org. Thanks,Ishmael Reed
