Happenings

Today’s show is called “What is a Happening?” Since Happenings are the inspiration for the name of this radio show I thought it would be nice to have an episode devoted to what a Happening is.

The term was coined by the visual and performance artist, Allan Kaprow in the early 1960s.  Although the definition of a Happening is one that evolved over a number of years, in general, they were loosely staged performances or events with free form, improvisational, and multimedia elements.

For this episode my friends James Angello, Arielle Hardy and I have a brainstorm session regarding the definition of a "Happening." We discuss works by Allan Kaprow, a.k.a "the Godfather of Happenings" and contemporary artist, John Bock. Stay tuned for a fun chat and some informal insight into Modern- Contemporary art.

Artworks discussed:

John Bock's Dance Lecture (2005)
