Science in Context

Michael Meloni

Today we are talking about audio processing.  We were interested in how some post-recording effects such as distortion, fuzzy, reverb etc. work so we decided to figure it out.  We go over how we can think about waveforms and how changes to them affect the sound.

The gif shown is taken from wikipedia's page on Fourier Transforms (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fourier_transform) and is a great visualization of what a fourier transform does to a signal.
