Science in Context

We are taking the week off and re-airing our episode (originally aired on 10/30) on permafrost and sea level in preparation for our episode next week on geo-engineering.
In honor of Halloween we cover a truely scary topic, the thawing of permafrost. Like the name suggests permafrost is ground that has been frozen for at least two years (some spots have been frozen for over 10,000 years). We go over the basics of what permafrost is, some of the most recent research about it, and why the positive feedback loop can have a large effect on the climate.
