Charles Lloyd, Zakir Hussain, and Eric Harland

Mondavi Center, Davis

"In sanskrit, sangam means confluence. A fitting metaphor for these three revered improvisers working across cultures and genres to create a wholly original musical experience. Born as a tribute to drummer Billy Higgins, who passed in 2001, the trio has evolved into a fascinating project, built on the complex rhythmic interplay of Zakir Hussain (tabla) and Eric Harland (drums), tethered together by the unifying presence of Charles Lloyd on saxophones, flutes, tarogato, piano and percussion. Spiritual, playful and undeniably virtuosic, this is music that reaches for transcendence and rarely falls short of the mark."
