Alan Yip joins us live in our studio to perform classical Chinese music. We'll hear him on guqin, the zither of the sages, and erhu, the fiddle that spread from folk origins to ubiquity in Chinese music.

Bobby Fischer, arguably the greatest chess player in history, was born on this date in 1943. From an early age he dominated the world of chess, even after his virtual retirement in his 30s.

His persecution by the US government, after he was used as a Cold War prop, troubled his later years. The government of Iceland granted him full citizenship and asylum to rescue him from confinement and extradition.
