Speaking in Tongues

Richard Estes & Ron Glick

During the first half hour, Avrasha Blum, an active member of Anarchists Against the Wall, will speak about their efforts to stop the construction of a separation wall in the Palestinian occupied territories that splits their communities and requires seizures of valuable farm land.  Participants in Anarchists Against the Wall have been subjected to Israeli repression through violence and legal prosecution, and Blum is currently touring the West Coast, with scheduled appearances in Sacramento on Saturday and Berkeley on Sunday, to raise funds to pay for their defense. For more information, check out the events calendar at indybay.org.

Meanwhile, Kevin Anderson, a professor at UC Santa Barbara, is confirmed for the second half hour, starting at approximately 5:30 p.m., and he will speak about his recent book, "Marx at the Margins".  In this book, Anderson reveals a much more nuanced, synergistic relationship between Marx's materialist, economic perspective about social relations and the capitalist transformation of countries like Ireland, India and Poland than has previously been acknowledged.
