Trawler Bycatch from Portland feature the formerly Sacto-based artist Zac Nelson (ex-Who's Your Favorite Son, God?) a.k.a. Hexlove, plus a members of Danava who also teamed with Zac in the outstanding Princess Sweepstakes. Difficult to classify, T.B. has a more epic metallic style than other Zac Nelson projects you've seen or heard. It's kinda like if a modern metal band had mined Butthole Surfers and Beefheart territory, and their singer is one of the most startlingly imperious female vocalists today. Fans of those bands I mentioned plus Zach Hill and Jex Thoth should dig 'em immensely.

Knifey Spoony from Oakland and Colleen Green from L.A. are part of the gregarious axis of fun(ny)-punk that ranges from NoBunny and Coconut Coolouts and Burger Records at its traditional base (owing much to our Bananas and Four Eyes) to Tyvek and Uzi Rash on its outer-zoning fringe. With the newest member of Uzi Rash (who slayed on KDVS a few weeks ago), Knifey Spoony are a bit toward the fringe, but super-catchy and easily likeable and relatable. Very Sacto. Colleen Green was described to me at first as "like a female NoBunny", which makes sense most of the time, and during the sweeter moments, she's more like if the Dum Dum Girls were actually dum-dums...in the best possible sense. I mean...she rewrote "I Wanna Be Sedated" as "I Wanna Be Degraded". This is a total no-brainer!

Brain activity increases as the show goes on...
Colleen goes first
Then Knifey Spoony
Then Trawler Bycatch
Please tell your friends.....Your word-of-mouth is crucial for connecting these bands to the people who should enjoy them.
Thanks,
Rick
