Removal of "Under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance and "In God We Trust" from National Currency

This last Tuesday Michael Newdow, a Sacramento resident, argued at the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to have the words "under god" and "in god we trust" removed from government endorsement. His cases, previously thrown out of the Supreme Court on the grounds of standing, have proved controversial not only within the religious community but also among atheists.
