Interview w/ NONGRATA
NONGRATA is a Performance Group from Estonia. Around 40 members belong to the group, mostly from Estonia, also from Quebec, Finland, Latvia, Germany, USA, and France. The main characteristics of the members are ANONYMITY in group work, ignorance of local art world and mass media. The group has performed in Iceland, USA, South Korea, France, Germany, Finland, Russia, Poland, Lithuania, Latvia, England, Sweden with street actions and long lasting "GHETTOMARATONS" - 14 days in the Cellar, 240h Asylum, 336h Experimental Space, etc. Around the name NONGRATA there have been different hushes and shushes for a long time. Already from the point of view of death of conventionalization of art it has embodied the horrible and unwanted disembodiment of the human person, from which the meaningless of nowadays art, is pouring out. For those, whose world of arts starts from the point where the art world ends, NONGRATA has been the orphic gap in the seemingly unalterable course, which however betrays us, and it is cure from incest. The main point of the group is ethical - it is the image of primitivism, impersonality and experimental creativity. The performances of the group take place according to the logic of avoiding codes. The presentations are physical texts, whose way of orthography and reading are kept within limits of real actions by the group members.

Tune in for a live interview with comedian Paul Mooney. Mooney wrote some of Richard Pryor's routines for his appearance on Saturday Night Live, co-wrote his material for the Live on the Sunset Strip, Bicentennial Nigger, and Is It Something I Said albums, and Pryor's film Jo Jo Dancer, Your Life Is Calling.
As the head writer for The Richard Pryor Show, he gave many young stand-up comics, such as Robin Williams, Sandra Bernhard, Marsha Warfield, John Witherspoon, and Tim Reid, their first break into show business. Mooney also wrote for Redd Foxx's Sanford and Son, Good Times, acted in several cult classics including Which Way Is Up?, Bustin' Loose, Hollywood Shuffle, and portrayed singer/songwriter Sam Cooke in The Buddy Holly Story. He was the head writer for the first year of Fox's In Living Color, creating the character Homey D. Clown, played by Damon Wayans. Mooney later went on to play Wayans' father in the Spike Lee film Bamboozled as the comedian Junebug. Paul Mooney initially appeared in the sketches Ask a Black Dude and Mooney on Movies on Comedy Central's Chappelle's Show, which he later replaced with Negrodamus, the African American version of Nostradamus. As Negrodamus, Mooney ad-libbed the "answers to life's most unsolvable mysteries" such as "Why do white people love Wayne Brady?" (Answer: "Because Wayne Brady makes Bryant Gumbel look like Malcolm X.") During a 2006 performance at the Apollo Theater in which Mooney was taping a segment for Showtime at the Apollo, his performance was stopped in the middle of his act allegedly due to his criticisms of President George W. Bush. Mooney appeared on The Howard Stern Show on October 30, 2006 where he talked about the performance including bringing in his road manager as a witness. During the act he made several jokes about Bush including one likening him to the devil and one stating that his mother looked like the "guy on the Quaker Oats box", and was immediately pulled from the stage. A forty-five minute debate ensued in his dressing room in which they decided to cancel the rest of his act. Mooney was told that he had "offended unnamed officials from Time Warner", which operates Showtime at the Apollo. A Time Warner spokeswoman called the story "ridiculous... it's absolutely untrue" that the company had anything to do with the incident. Interview conducted by Justin Desmangles.

Skip Skiffington has gained
tremendous recognition throughout
the cross-genre novelty sector of
the underworld of audiophiles.
His unique approach to lyricism
and performing vocals is unlike
anything you have likely heard
before or will again. Skip's music
is best left imagined then described
UNTIL you get a chance to hear it.
It is then that you find yourself
in two predominant groups: those
who love Skip's music or those who
just don't get it. Their loss!
Also we'll here material from Allen Ginsberg, Climax Golden Twins and Bun Kum.

The Poetry Out Loud lp's are legendary, long out-of-print sides privately pressed by Peter and Patricia Harleman and Klyd and Linda Watkins from 1969-1977 in order to document their wild experiments with vocal form. Across the space of these beautiful looking LPs, the two couples navigate the same kind of formless, disembodied zone that defined Jandek's unaccompanied vocal trilogy while touching on poles as temporally and spatially diverse as the associative poetry of Matthew Valentine, Jack Kerouac and Charles Olson, the wowing use of heavy delay/reverb associated with contemporary heads like The Skaters and Excepter, the slum-prose of The Fugs, Patti Smith and Lisa Suckdog and the sound poetry experiments of Henri Chopin, Bernard Heidsieck, Bob Cobbing, Brion Gysin and others associated with the legendary Revue Ou. That this was going on in almost complete seclusion somewhere in America throughout the 70s is nothing short of mind-boggling. (from Volcanic Tongue article)
Tonight I'll be playing various pieces from this dark and wonderfull series. Untie the tangles, dim the lights and become one with the dusty world.

Though it was unannounced, Afrirampo called in after 1am to chat w/ Larry & Brendan and created a collaberative noise jam with them on this show.
Cholita: "How as your night last night?"
Flower Vato: "It was really good. One of the best performances I've ever seen. Those girls are fucking crazy and talented to boot.
They stayed the night over here and we had a really nice time. As soon as they walked in Pika said "ooohh, you like freedom!!!! I made an organic spinach salad and a shitake mushroom stew. Smoked the smoke, drank beer & wine, they danced around in the kitchen, practiced tuvan throat singing, made puppets dance around on the table, listened to flora purim & japanese pop music, told them stories about the indian rez, then gradually mellowed out around 5am, going to sleep with a nice cd of animal noises playing.
We had to get up by 10:30 this morning, me to work, them to rush off to another radio show/interview then go to L.A.
Pika wants to grow her own organic food one day, Oni wants to visit real Indians. I'm taking my brother Aswut to meet them in San Francisco @ the end of the month. See if they want to go to a sweat.
They're going to play with DMBQ in S.F.on the 22nd, who are also from Japan and put on one of the best rock & roll shows I've ever seen. You should really go. Tell your friends, for only 8 clams, they'll be seeing some once in a lifetime kinda shit. Once you've seen either band, you won't stop talking about them. They're that good.
Pika & Oni left their cd case here, most of the discs have little information or are written in Japanese. I think I'll make a radio show out of it."

"This is a record about language. All of us are familiar with the sounds of foriegn tongues. We enjoy hearing the rolling softness of French, for example, or the guttural strength of German. All of us also have heard the speech of the black American. Be we rarely grant it the same consideration we extend automatically to the languages of other lands. The black dialect, as seen by linguist, is the subject of this record." Though this Wire's most underated and misunderstood record, it's also probably their finest.
Following its watershed album 154, Wire found itself in an odd predicament. Unhappy with its record company and wanting to experiment musically, it was somewhat hamstrung by its success. In an attempt to break with its past the band performed an event in 1980 that was part concert and part performance art. DOCUMENT AND EYEWITNESS, which also features tracks from two other live shows and a pair of studio tracks, contains the majority of that concert, recorded at London's Electric Ballroom. It's an interesting audio document of a band trying sonically and visually to change both itself and its audience.

Alvarius B is the scabrous solo pseudonym of Alan Bishop of Sun City Girls and Blood Operatives Of The Barium Sunset has got to be his most beautifully realised outing to date, a black curse of a folk blues that touches on skull-torchers as bleak as Nick Cave circa ?Tupelo? and Leonard Cohen around the time of Songs Of Love And Hate. Most tracks feature vocals and acoustic guitar with Bishop working linguistic voodoo from brain-busting lists of fucked-up remembrance and occult doofs. Also features Eyvind Kang, Tim Young, Andrew McGinnis, Randall Dunn and Rick Bishop.
Also will feature tracks from Gershon Kingsley's "God is a Moog", Magical Power Mako (72-75) and Christine 23 Onna.

Got to dj for my family at a baby shower this weekend. Hung out with my uncle Mike who proceeded to tell me some the grittiest antedotes about growing up in Stockton during the early 60s. The songs in this show are from that era and are cherished by many Chicanos and those in the lowrider community. This set is dedicated to the Fuentez, Lomas, Rodriguez & Avilla families. Theres some great makeout music here, so turn out the lights, light some candles and love the one youre with.......

To get warmed up for tonites show at the G st.Pub and tomorrows show at the Blue Lamp, were gonna drop some jazz, soul, gut bucket funk and sleazy latin grooves on ya.
Also we got a few songs lined up for the two year anniversary of the invasion of Iraq. Every (Vietnam) vet that I've known is an alcoholic or a drug addict because of the shit they seen and they didn't know how to cope with it. Their erratic behavior ended up destroying their lives and family relations. Now we got a new crop of boys over there that will probably share the same fate. "March of the Witches Castle" by Funkadelic explores this very topic. Also political songs by Eugene Mcdaniels, the Temptations, War and Les McCann will be played.

This week I'll be playing some of the cutz that were mentioned in the "LOVE MUSIC" article found in the most recent issue of KDVIATIONS. I know that Mr.Ryan of the "Police State" show has already done a similar program a few weeks ago, but I've been holding out until more people have had the chance to discover the article. Also there was so much music mentioned, that it could be spread into into several different shows alltogether. I'll only do a couple. Part two is next week.
