The Front Porch Blues Show
JD Esquire & Rich Blackmarr & TJ
Tonight the Front Porch Blues Show will be hosted by Rich Blackmarr. This program will continue last month's look at blues recordings released in the year 1950, primarily with records issued from May thru August of that year. As before, the featured artists include some who were active before WWII such as Tampa Red, Leadbelly, Memphis Minnie, Big Joe Turner, and Walter Davis. Seminal Chicago blues will feature early records by Leroy Foster, Little Walter, and Jimmy Rogers. There will be New Orleans recordings including early records from Fats Domino, Professor Longhair, and Roy Brown. We'll have some more great guitar band blues from Texans T-Bone Walker, Gatemouth Brown (squeezed out last time), and Pee Wee Crayton. We'll also fit in the more polished urban blues of Lil Greenwood, Nat Cole's older brother Eddie, Annie Laurie, Dinah Washington, and Wynonie Harris. Finally, we'll add a short gospel set including the great singer/guitarist Sister Rosetta Tharpe.
