The Front Porch Blues Show with J.D. Esquire and Friends
JD Esquire & Rich Blackmarr
Host Rich Blackmarr presents the concluding Part 2 of an archive show featuring blues recordings that were released in the year 1958. Chess recording artists Howlin' Wolf and Jimmy Rogers were at the height of their craft. Eli Toscano's Cobra Records was turning out blues gems by Magic Sam, Harold Burrage, Willie Dixon, and others. Chicago's Jimmy Reed and Nashville's Gene Allison were recording for Vee-Jay and Elmore James was cutting sides for Chief. For Houston's Duke label Larry Davis laid down the classic "Texas Flood." In the SF Bay Area pianist/singer Little Willie Littlefield cut tunes for Don Barksdale's Rhythm label. Excello and Goldband in Lousiana were turning out fine blues by Arthur Gunter, Lightnin' Slim, Roscoe Shelton, Hop Wilson, and Clarence Garlow. In this show, as in the preceding one on February 9th, we'll visit these and other blues oriented R&B artists. Surprise appearances from Little Esther, Jimmy Rushing, Screamin' Jay Hawkins, and the Coasters. Check it out!
