The Front Porch Blues Show with J.D. Esquire and Friends

JD Esquire & Rich Blackmarr

Host Rich Blackmarr presents another archive show this week featuring blues recordings that were released in the year 1958.  Chess recording artists Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, and Howlin' Wolf were at the height of their craft.  Eli Toscano's Cobra/Artistic Records was turning out blues gems by Otis Rush, Magic Sam, Buddy Guy, and others.  Also in Chicago Jimmy Reed and John Lee Hooker were recording for Vee-Jay and Elmore James was cutting sides for Chief.  In Houston Bobby Bland and Junior Parker were turning out some of their classics.  In the SF Bay Area such musicians as Johnny Fuller recorded blues for Bob Geddins' Irma label and Little Willie Littlefield cut tunes for Don Barksdale's Rhythm label.  Champion in Nashville, Excello and Goldband in Lousiana, and Duke/Peacock in Houston were turning out fine blues.  In this show and the next one, we'll visit these and other blues oriented R&B artists, plus a few gospel records from 1958.  Check them out!
