We'll start with some STAX soul sounds, all sorts of soul and garage, especially international 60s Psych and US 60s Garage (AKA 'TeenBeat').

This week I got the new Mike Markesich book TEENBEAT MAYHEM in the mail, available from Ugly Things magazine's web site; I've been reading it for the past few days and I've barely scratched the surface. It's about 400 pages exhaustively researched, listing discographies for the many hundreds and thousands of obscure and unheralded 60s rock n roll combos. Clues you into the bootleg issues and has a 'Top 1000' 60s garage tunes listing, which is fantastic.

Some garage/teenbeat you might find readily available on compilations like BACK FROM THE GRAVE, TEENAGE SHUTDOWN, or PEBBLES. Bands with names like the Tombstones, the Mourning Reign, Richard and the Young Lions, Unrelated Segments, The Young Monkey Men, The Weeds, the Lollipop Shoppe, Madd Inc, The Dirty Wurds, Hydraulic Raisins, The Dovers, The Treez, etc; And of course with listings on the more well-known garage greats like The Sonics, The Music Machine, and The Chocolate Watchband. Definitely worth investigation and is wholeheartedly recommended reading for the 60s garage fan.
