It’s summer and these boys are keepin’ it hot! We had a chance to speak with Hot Flash Heat Wave, who played the most recent Operation: Restore Maximum Freedom festival, about their music, wild show stories and their favorite karaoke songs! They’re about to release their debut album, which is currently untitled.
Who are you? Where are you from?
We are Hot Flash Heat Wave from San Francisco. We grew up in Davis though so shoutouts to KDVS and the Deadly City Krew.
How would you describe your music?
Toasted Rock and Roll for dancing in as little clothing as possible. Our songs represent the life of us boiz living in Frisco, Cali trying to find love in the gutter.
How’s work going on your next album? What would be different in comparison to earlier releases?
We just finished recording our debut full length at Different Fur Studios here in SF. The album is currently being mixed and mastered so expect to hear singles in the next few months. The new album is a more developed sound, drawing influences from grunge and OG rock and roll pop. It is overall more hi fidelity as it was recorded in the studio rather than the normal “gutter mic” that we were recording with at home.
Any funny or crazy tour / show stories?
Most of our shows have some pretty wild stuff go down, to name a couple standouts: Man stage diving into a cactus garden… Nathaniel nearly fighting the doorman for not having a guest list then accepting his humble apology after seeing us play…. a drunk student jumped on stage and her graphing calculator fell onto adams distortion pedal blowing her into oblivion.

How’s your day?
