Vancouver- Supercity of Amazing Female Punk/Grunge

I was lucky enough to catch White Lung play here in Sacramento on Wednesday- wow, way to rock my socks off! Reminded me of the Gits the whole time they played. Perhaps part of it was related to the fact they played at the axewave manor- a basement, but either way they blew me away. And apparently also their guitar, it broke two strings, effectively ending the show, unfortunately. Is grunge coming back into fashion? Probably not, but maybe it never died in Vancouver.

Nu Sensae also has a new record out, TV, Death, and the Devil, which is equally awesome. They played here in Sacramento at the Sol Collective and were very good- but I like White Lung's fuller sound more, personally.

Just a Broken Bone

goodbadmusic has an excellent summary of the Tooth and Nail compilation I played last Saturday. Particularly poignant is how they say it's one of those records where when you put it on, "you totally focus on the sound, the songs and you wish you could shoot it all up your veins, sniff it, eat it, breath it, drink it". Not because I feel the same way about this compilation, but because I feel that way about a large number of songs; at the moment it's the track "You ;- think!!" by This Poison. It's just one of those songs whose sound waves I wish I could crawl inside and stay for even a little while. Since the scans of the lyrics on the goodbadmusic site are so tiny and awful I scanned the lyrics sleeve we have. They're posted at the bottom of this page, click the thumnail for a bigger picture.

God Equals Genocide, Fat Beavers, the Poonteens, the Enlows

God Equals Genocide- The rotten apples of the Griznar Music Family, these little squirts sometimes make me think of band like the Bananas, the Urinals, Astrid Oto and Sin 34. You may disagree with those comparisons, but what do I know? I'm only a doctor. http://www.myspace.com/godequalsgenocide Fat Beavers- You'd be surprised to learn that even in the depraved, far flung corners of the Earth, such as France, pop punk exists. I certainly was when I first heard the Fat Beavers. Sometimes these guys play light-hearted, Minute Men influenced pop punk, while other times their songs develop hardcore tendencies that would make one think their name was Angry Beavers. http://www.myspace.com/fatbeavers The Enlows- Sacramento pop punk veterans, these guys play Ramones influenced punk of a quality that hasn't been heard since the mid-90s.
